Michael Miller

Michael Miller is a graduate of Grand Rapids Baptist College and Western Michigan University, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theory and Composition. Throughout his career, he has served on the faculties of Grand Rapids Baptist College, Valencia College, Trinity Preparatory School, and The Geneva School, where he helped establish and grow vibrant instrumental music programs.

At The Geneva School in Winter Park, Florida, Mr. Miller founded and directed The Geneva Consortium, an orchestral program designed specifically for independent schools and homeschool students. In the fall of 2006, he began conducting with the Central Florida Youth Orchestra, which later became MAYS Lake County. Mr. Miller has also worked with the Daytona Beach Youth Orchestra and the Flagler Youth Orchestra, and from 2000 to 2010 served as Associate Conductor of the Florida Young Artists Orchestra.

In addition to his work as an educator and conductor, Mr. Miller has been an active church musician in both Michigan and Florida. He currently serves as Director of Music at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and the Diocese of Green Bay in Wisconsin.

Mr. Miller’s relationships with students, families, colleagues, and, in particular, Jonathan May, have been among the most meaningful influences of his career. He deeply values the collaborative nature of orchestral music and the opportunities it creates for lifelong learning, artistic growth, and community.

In 2010, Mr. Miller co-founded Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony alongside Maureen May and Emily Costa to continue the educational vision and legacy of Jonathan May. His leadership, educational philosophy, and commitment to student development helped shape the foundation upon which MAYS continues to build today.

Mr. Miller is proud of his family. His wife, Wendy, is a trained musician and accomplished vocalist, and their children, Creed and Madeline, continue the family’s lifelong love of music.
