Nathan May is a performer, educator, and co-owner of Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony (MAYS).
As the son of music educators Jonathan and Maureen May, Nathan grew up surrounded by music education, youth orchestras, rehearsals, performances, and a vibrant community of students and musicians. These experiences helped shape a lifelong passion for music and a deep appreciation for the role that music education plays in developing creativity, confidence, discipline, and community.
A versatile and accomplished musician, Nathan is an active performer throughout Central Florida and can frequently be found performing in a wide variety of musical settings. His primary instrument is bass, and he performs regularly on both upright and electric bass. In addition, he is an accomplished cellist and pianist and enjoys exploring many styles and genres of music.
Alongside his performing career, Nathan is a dedicated music educator who teaches strings students in both classroom and private lesson settings. He has taught strings classes at various locations throughout Central Florida and maintains a private studio, working with students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. His teaching emphasizes strong musical foundations, technical development, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Through years of experience as a performer, teacher, and youth orchestra participant, Nathan has developed a passion for helping students discover their own musical potential. He believes that music education should be engaging, accessible, and rewarding for every student.
Today, Nathan continues to support the mission of MAYS as a co-owner, educator, and performer, helping carry forward the educational values and musical legacy that inspired the organization’s founding.
